The geodesic frame is assembled hub by hub — every connection checked before any membrane work begins. Membrane panels are fitted progressively from the base up, tensioned and secured so the structure behaves as designed in wind and weather.

Properly Anchored — Not an Afterthought
Anchoring is one of the most critical elements of any geodesic dome installation. The base rail of the dome is connected to the platform structure via storm straps and ratchet systems, distributing wind loads into the foundation. The design of the anchoring system is based on the dome size, site exposure, and intended use.
Every Bell Tent Sussex installation is anchored with purpose-specified fixings — nothing is improvised on site.

We install geodesic domes ranging from 5m to 12m in diameter, with the option to specify larger on request. Our standard range covers 5m, 6m, 7m, 8m, and 10m diameters. For anything above 10m — like the 12m planetarium dome in this case study — additional plant such as a crane or HIAB may be required, which we factor into the project plan.
Yes — and this is one of the key things that sets us apart. Many dome suppliers deliver a structure and leave you to arrange groundworks separately. We manage the entire project, including platform design, foundation type, and construction. The platform is structural, not cosmetic — we don't leave it to chance or to other contractors who don't know the dome spec.
We specify the foundation type based on site conditions. The most common options are ground screws (helical piles driven into the ground with minimal disruption), concrete pads, and adjustable timber bearers. Ground screws are often the most practical option — they're fast, non-intrusive, reversible, and work well on soft or uneven ground. We assess your site before specifying anything.
Installation timescales vary by dome size, usually around 3 days for foundations and 3 days for the install depending on platform complexity, site conditions, and team size. For our installed geodesic domes, the galvanised steel frame is designed to last 20+ years with the correct care and maintenance. The PVC outer cover would typically be expected to last around 15 years, depending on location, exposure to UV, weather conditions and maintenance.
One of the major benefits of our domes is that the structure is designed for long-term use, and individual components, including the outer cover and clear window sections, can be replaced when required rather than replacing the entire dome.
Yes. We install thermally lined and insulated dome systems for year-round occupancy. The platform is also insulated as standard on permanent installations — the insulation specification is agreed at the design stage based on your use case. For a glamping dome in year-round occupancy, we would typically combine a thermally lined membrane, insulated platform, and appropriate heating provision.
We carry out electrical first fix work — cable management, routing for lighting and sockets, and services coordination. Final electrical connection requires a certified electrician, which we can recommend or coordinate alongside the project. We plan the services routes as part of the installation so nothing is retrofitted through finished membranes or flooring.
The dome base rail is connected to the platform structure via storm straps and ratchet strap systems distributed around the perimeter. These run through the platform deck to the ground anchor system below. The anchoring design is project-specific — it accounts for dome size and site exposure. No dome we install is left without a proper anchoring system.
We hand over every installation with a full briefing on the structure and its maintenance requirements. We're available by phone after handover if any questions arise. Spare parts, replacement membrane panels, and ongoing support are available through Bell Tent Sussex — we don't disappear after the installation is complete.
